Fifth In-person SWEET EDGE Consortium Meeting

36 members gathered in Wädenswil to talk about the past, present and future of SWEET EDGE

On 4–5 September 2025, the SWEET EDGE consortium gathered at the ZHAW Grüental Campus in Wädenswil for two days of presentations, discussions, and collaboration. Researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders explored how EDGE’s interdisciplinary work is helping Switzerland accelerate its journey toward net-zero.

Day 1 featured insights on renewable energy finance, tariff design, EV flexibility, local energy communities, biomass, and case studies in the Alps and Midlands. Discussions highlighted both opportunities and challenges: from Switzerland’s role as an international financier of renewable energy, to how tariff structures affect households, to the practical hurdles of deploying Alpine PV, Agri-PV, and electrified agricultural transport.

Day 2 looked ahead to the final phase of EDGE. Presentations explored distributional impacts of policy mixes, system reliability under high shares of renewables, and integrating survey results into modelling. The consortium also prepared the next model inter-comparison and Renewable Energy Outlook III, while defining a roadmap for the final two years of EDGE.

Key takeaways: focus on actionable, policy-relevant results; ensure sustainability of tools beyond the project; and translate scientific findings into clear, accessible messages for diverse audiences.
